Regional auditions were held on January 24-26 at Mesquite High School. With Dr. Spencer as Regional Chairperson, the GHS Choir students helped run the auditions! A great big "Thank you" to all the students who helped out, making the audition process run smoothly and effectively. Some even said this was the best year ever for how well it was organized! Also, thanks to all the parents and the Choir Boosters for supporting us too! We had lots of nice comments about Gilbert students and parents!
Vocally and musically, Gilbert was prepared to face the regional judges head on. In regionals 2008, GHS will be represented by 11 singers!! Congratulations to Bianca, Megan, Brynn, Chery, Sam W., Andrew, Harrison, Tom H., Jamyn, Mike W., and Jeremy for making the regional choir, which consists of the top 25 singers in each section. This is quite an accomplishment with 550 people auditioning. Kudos also to everyone who tried out. It was clearly shown that Gilbert can't be underestimated.
Also, our very own Dr. Spencer was selected for January "Faculty of the Month" for GHS. Way to go Doc! She got lots of cool stuff such as lunches and car washes, dinners and movies. She even got laser tag tickets! Anyone want to take Doc on in a game of Laser Tag?
And choir students aren't just great in choir! Maryam and Camille were selected as the Women's LaCrosse Captains! Way to go girls! Go out to the field and support the GHS LaCrosse team. We have students in track and volleyball and tennis too! GHS Choir students Rock!
Congratulations to Cortney for winning November Student of the Month for all of Gilbert High! A member of Concert Choir, Cortney was awarded the certificate right in class! She's a terrific student and does an incredible amount of service and work for GHS. Besides being on the Choir Council, Cortney is highly involved in Student Council, works two jobs, and is involved in community and church work as well. The Choirs are very proud of you, Cortney! When you see her, give her a pat on the back for being such a great leader!
All-State Jazz auditions were held on October 27, 2007. Schools from all over the state competed to have their students represent them in Jazz Choir I, which consists of the top five students from each section (soprano, alto, tenor, or bass). There is also a Jazz Choir II that consists of the next top five vocalists from each section. Competition was high, and so were the results of Gilbert. We are pleased to announce that 10 of the 15 that auditioned will be involved this year. Way to go Gilbert!!! So, congratulations to Bianca, Michael, Andrew, Elyse, and Sam for making the All-State Jazz Choir I!!! And congratulations Tom, Alexa, and Sean for making choir II, and kudos to Chase and Chery for earning alternate positions.
Bad news for Cameron who broke his leg playing volleyball this last week. Don’t hesitate to offer help or give him a pat on the back!
Parker has been an all-star football player this season. His efforts have scored Gilbert many, many touchdowns. Keep going Parker!
A big “Good Job” goes out to Alexa and Elyse who performed with our own Mrs. Jarrett in the Banner Hospital Festival of Trees. They sang beautiful Christmas carols like "Mary Did You Know", "Pat a Pan", and "Sleigh Ride". Many who heard the performances were stunned speechless at the talent that was shown by these singers. Great Job Alexa and Elyse!!!
